We’re only installing the latest SMETS2 meters, also known as second generation smart meters. That means you’re free to switch away from Bulb in the future without losing any features on your smart meter or In-Home Display.
Do bulbs take meter readings?
You can submit meter readings in your Bulb account. Just click ‘Submit meter reading’ and then choose ‘Electricity’ or ‘Gas’. You can also submit meter readings using the Bulb app. And for most types of meter, the Bulb app can submit your reading for you using your phone’s camera.
Can Peoples energy read smart meters?
We feel very passionate about renewable energy and all our electricity comes from renewable sources. We’ll be able to install smart meters in properties with solar panels. If you have solar panels, we’ll only be able to exchange your import meter when it is with People’s Energy.
Why does my smart meter say waiting for current data?
Your In-Home Display uses a wireless signal to receive energy usage information from your smart meters. If your In-Home Display shows “Waiting for data”, it could be because it’s too far away from your smart meter. Try moving your In-Home Display closer to your electricity smart meter.

How often do bulb read meters?
If you’ve just switched to Bulb, you should send your first reading within 5 days of your switch completing. But don’t worry, we’ll send you an email to remind you. Ideally, after that, you should submit meter readings every month. We’ll send you a monthly reminder.
Do you have to submit meter readings with a smart meter?
You don’t need to take any readings with a smart meter, it will do that automatically. But if you want them for your own peace of mind, you can still get them.
